The Wonder Club is a creative programme designed with and for young people aged 13 to 18, offering an exploration of early filmmaking and experimental moving image techniques with artist Chahine Fellahi. Fuse analogue and digital, uncover the groundbreaking innovations of local filmmakers and rekindle the spirit of discovery, enchantment and innovation that marked the early days of cinema.

This is an exciting opportunity to experiment with techniques that led to contemporary filmmaking and contribute to exhibitions and events that will be taking place for the wider programme, Days of Wonder.

Spaces are limited so registering in advance is essential.

The Days of Wonder Young Producers project is up and running! Over fortnightly sessions, a group of young people will work together with industry professionals to research and learn about the incredible collections of early films and filmmakers held by Screen Archive South East and Brighton & Hove Museums.

Invited to respond to the museum collections by creating new material, this project will present their work publicly in 2025.

Days of Wonder has been extended until November so you still have time to experience Connor Turansky’s work ‘Reimagining the Archive’, a series of three pop-up books using Augmented Reality (AR) to tell stories of the history of cinema in Hove. Scan the secret pictures inside each museum cabinet to access AR content, enhancing the pop-ups with 3D scans.

‘I Wonder’, a single-channel digital video expresses Okuya’s relationship to the Hove filmmaking archives & the unseen figures of early filmmaking history. Seeking out representations of women, queer communities, and people of colour, the artist found them to be hidden, or unavailable. Here the artist presents herself in the frame, intersecting past, present and future - creating space and time to imagine.

Goss was one of four commissioned artists along with @annisjoslin @sapphire_goss and @connor_turansky as well work created by The Wonder Club (a group for young people led by Chahine Fellahi).

‘Mechanical Marvellous’ is a moving image piece fusing archive imagery from Brighton & Hove’s film and media collections with newly shot footage taken around Brighton using obsolete film stock and clockwork cine cameras. This ‘analogue VR’ installation is viewed by looking both down inside a rosewood and brass box and up to a ceiling projection.

The Wonder Club have explored many different processes and approaches to filmmaking with artist Chahine Fellahi. These experiments have sought to find new ways to connect with early film making and the Brighton and Hove film pioneers. Heres the result from a recent experiment with Trichromatic video making which is a process of taking three identical shots, each taken with a different color filter (red, green, and blue), and then combining the three to create a color image.

Heres the result from a recent experiment with Trichromatic video making which is a process of taking three identical shots, each taken with a different color filter (red, green, and blue), and then combining the three to create a color image.

We have been running feedback sessions with some of the settings who’ve been receiving the recent run of Corridor Art Boxes.

Working creatively together using the Art Box materials and resources we looked through the contents discussing what people liked and what benefits there might be to having one.

This project was recommissioned by NHS Health and Justice South East.

With our penultimate run coming up we are getting to close to having delivered 3000 Corridor Art Boxes to the most vulnerable people in secure estates in the South East who are experiencing mental health challenges such as depression, loneliness and isolation.

We had a fantastic evening last night celebrating Days of Wonder at Hove Museum of Creativity . videoclub’s Jamie Wyld led an in-conversation with Days of Wonder artists Chahine Fellahi, Sapphire Goss, Annis Joslin, Bella Okuya and Connor Turansky.

The evening was an opportunity to celebrate the exhibition (due to scuppered private view plans) and for the artists involved to share some insights and reflections on making the new work for the exhibition.

Thanks to all the artists for their fabulous work and for being part of this special project.

The contents include a range of art materials and objects accompanied by a newly designed activity book, which the image used on this post come from, with ideas and starting points for using the materials. As well a wonderful public Magic Lantern demonstration, Alexia gave the cohort of newly commissioned artists a deep dive into the museums collection held in Hove sharing unique source material and ephemera from the days of the pioneers✨

It’s been great to work with Screen Archive South East during the different iterations of Days of Wonder. Special thanks to Dr Frank Gray for all his incredible knowledge-sharing and infectious enthusiasm, especially during the recent Wonder Lab at Hove Museum.

We look forward to presenting an exhibition of new work inspired and influenced by the remarkable film and media collections held at Hove Museum of Creativity and Screen Archive South East.

Corridor and @videoclub_uk have commissioned four artists to work with the collections, resulting in an exhibition of new artworks, installed as interventions in the permanent exhibition galleries at Hove Museum of Creativity.

We’re delighted to be working with Sapphire Goss, Annis Joslin, Bella Okuya and Connor Turansky in this artist response to the project ⚡️⚡️⚡️⚡️
